The Chinese word for business is ‘生意’
Literally, ‘生’ means to live, alive, creativity, growth, flexibility, and adaptability. ‘意’ means ideas, intent or purpose. Together, the two Chinese characters, ‘生意’, carry a rich myriad of connotations and meanings: the vitality of ideas, the intent to grow, and the creative adaptability essential for success in business.
To us at Lim & Yeoh, ‘business’ means engaging in commerce of flexibility, adaptability, a readiness for change, and growth potential. It means being proactive, doing things differently, and thinking out of the box and providing creative legal solutions to businesses grounded in solid experience, legal expertise, and a comprehensive understanding of not just the law and rules & regulations, but also understanding clients’ needs in today’s super-competitive business world. Inherent in this is the ability to deliver legal advisory services in a timely manner. Sometimes, in business, you may not need the best or most comprehensive solution, but just an adequate and no-frills solution in the fastest possible manner.
Corporate and Commercial law is notoriously complicated and often a range of skills are required in the completion of a single ‘deal’. Our team aims to cut through the complexity and provide simple, and where required, creative yet commercially focused legal advice on a full range of needs.
We act principally for owner-managed, entrepreneurially driven SMEs, both public and private. Our corporate legal services include traditional advice on mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, takeovers, reverse takeovers, placings and open offers, management buyouts, private equity, strategic alliances, joint ventures and venture capital. As for commercial work, we advise on general contract negotiation, international trade, information technology and protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights.
